High School Student (Current or Early Completion)

A current high school student (to include those who complete graduation requirements early) may take courses concurrent with their high school courses (dual enrollment or dual credit) if they have an overall 2.5 GPA, submit a Provisional form and are of junior or senior status (may enroll in the summer prior to the Junior year).

 Students must have junior or senior status;

  • Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
  • Students must submit an Application for Admission each term
  • Must complete a Provisional Form prior to registration which includes:
    1. Recommendation and signature of the high school principal
    2. A list of approved courses
    3. Signature of parent or legal guardian
  • High school students must fulfill prerequisites (PR) of the course(s), if applicable. If taking a Math, English, or select courses with prerequisites, a student must submit one of the following: ACT, SAT, Compass or Accuplacer test scores for evaluation. Specific placement scores must be met in advance in order to register for Math, English and other select courses. (Refer to Test Scores). See Course Descriptions for prerequisite requirements. The Accuplacer placement test may be taken at New River once a student has completed the application process if courses are taken on campus. Please contact the testing Program Coordinator at the local campus for more information. Courses offered in the high school are offered a testing opportunity on site. Registration will occur on site as well.

We understand that some high school students may want to begin their college experience as soon as possible. Students are eligible to earn college credit and graduate early through EDGE courses and the Tech Prep Program which allows students to take high school courses for community and technical college credit.
