SIGN UP NOW FOR AUTOCAD, CNC MACHINING CLASSES AT NEW RIVER GVC
[Lewisburg, W. Va.] The New River Community and Technical College Machine Tool Technology Program is accepting registrations for AutoCAD and CNC machining and programming classes that will be offered in the spring semester at its facility on Houfnagle Road in Lewisburg, W. Va.
According to program coordinator Donovan Rhodes, these classes are valuable for those seeking to update their skills.
"You do not have to be seeking a degree or certificate to enroll in these classes. We can work with businesses needing to send employees for short-term training or re-certification," Rhodes said.
In the AutoCAD class, students earn to use a computer software application for 2-D and 3-D design and drafting. The class, which has previously been offered in the evening, will be offered on Wednesdays from 12 noon until 3 p.m. during the spring semester.
Both CNC machining and programming classes will be offered in the spring.
"Computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools have revolutionized the machining process," Rhodes explained. "In modern CNC systems, end-to-end component design is highly automated using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) programs.
"Many classes are offered in the evening to accommodate working students or those enrolled in daytime classes at the campus" Rhodes said.
To further assist students enrolled in machining and welding classes, New River program advisor Donna Polk teaches a Microsoft Office class at the welding facility on Wednesday evenings.
Spring semester classes begin Jan. 13. The last day to register is Jan. 3 All New River locations will be closed for winter break Dec. 23-Jan. 1. For further information, call the Greenbrier Valley Campus at (304) 647-6560, or visit www.newriver.edu.
