Upcoming New River CTC Community Education Classes Focus on Fitness and Managing Chronic Pain

[LEWISBURG, W. VA.] The New River Community and Technical College Office of Workforce Education in Lewisburg, W. Va., has two classes coming up that can help you take charge of your own health and fitness.
On Tuesday, May 6, the college will offer a three-hour class in Fitness Program Design. Instructor Sherry McCormick-Hawkins, is the owner of Fit Your Way and has nearly 30 years of experience in the fitness industry. She will help you students tailor a fitness program suited to their needs. The class will meet from 6-9 p.m. Tuition is $29, and preregistration is required by May 1.

On Tuesday and Thursday, May 13 and 15, from 6-8 p.m., Loria Shumate, a licensed massage therapist, will teach a class on Managing Chronic Pain at Home. The class is for people who want to learn simple self-care strategies they can employ at home for managing and reducing pain and relaxing muscular tension to many areas of the body. The class is not a substitute for professional or medical care of the pain patient, but is an excellent adjunct to professional care. Tuition is $60, and the registration deadline is May 7.

Both of these classes will be taught at New River CTC's Lee Street Complex (former Lewisburg Elementary School) in Lewisburg. For more information, or to register, call Sandra Wilmer in the New River CTC Office of Workforce Education in Lewisburg at (304) 793-3001.
