New River CTC Accepting Applications for Paramedic Program

[SUMMERSVILLE, W. VA.] New River Community and Technical College is accepting applications for the fall 2014 cohort of Paramedic Certificate Program at the Nicholas County Campus in Summersville, W. Va. Classes for the 2014-15 cohort will begin on Aug. 18.

The Paramedic Program is an intensive full-time four-semester certificate program designed to prepare students for careers as paramedics in a variety of healthcare settings as well as preparing and making them eligible to participate in the National Registry for EMTs testing program leading to national certification. The curriculum provides students with classroom, lab, field and clinical experiences in a variety of emergency care environments and facilities.

Interested applicants will need to take pre-entry exams and complete other application paperwork prior to July 29. Fifteen students will be accepted along with five alternates. A physical exam, drug screening and background check will be required during the second semester before students begin their clinical experience.
Mandatory program requirements include a valid State of West Virginia or NREMT-EMT Certification; must be eligible for or have completed Math 101 and English 101; must have EMT-Basic certification and must participate in an entrance interview with EMS faculty.

The classroom portion of the program will be taught on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 6.m. Times for the internship portion of the program, which will take place in the summer and fall of 2015, will vary depending on hospital placement.
